On Sunday we had the honor of dedicating Luke and Micah to the Lord. It was a beautiful Mother’s Day filled with family that will support us in raising our children according to God’s word.

Our children are on loan to us from heaven.
Adrian and I have always been aware that our children are not ours. They are on loan to us from heaven. While they are on earth we teach them about God and demonstrate a Godly life by example. But with Luke, this idea of our children belonging to God was tested.
Every pregnancy we say a prayer and we put our child in God’s hands. We give them to God because we know that ultimately their life is in his hands. But trust me, this is easier said than done. I said this prayer for Mia, Luke, and Micah, and I meant it every time. With Luke, I had to put it into practice. There was a moment where I literally put his life in God’s hands while he fought for every breath. While I held Lukes lifeless body I begged, pleaded, and bargained with God to keep him. I cried on my knees and pleaded with every ounce of me to let me bring him home. There was a sense of panic within me saying no, no, no, you can’t take him. This belief that he was mine and I had the right to keep him.
After I got a grip of myself there was this sense of peace and a memory popped in my head. I was reminded of a prayer that I made when I was pregnant. The memory of me on my knees while I was ten weeks pregnant thanking God for this blessing and giving Luke back to him. It was then and there that whatever happened to Luke was out of my control. Luke’s purpose was and still is bigger than me and my feelings, so I took a deep breath and trusted God.
We want to plan and include prayer for their spiritual life.
Choosing to dedicate the boys is a very important step in our journey as Christian parents because we acknowledge that we will help them learn about God and also fall deeply in love with him. I want to have my children grow up learning about God and experiencing his Love. As parents we think about our children’s future, whether it’s to do well in school, have a good career, excel in sports, and finding a good spouse. We want to plan and include prayer for their spiritual life too. Through Christ, they’re not only learning about God but we are also helping shape their character.
As a parent, we have certain responsibilities not only physically and mentally, like having them develop into good humans with love and compassion, but we also have a Godly responsibility. As parents it’s important to continuously pray for our children, teaching them about God, and set a Godly example. When it’s time and they are old enough to understand what it means to follow Christ they will choose to give their life to him. We will equip them through prayer and example in order to make this decision on their own because ultimately we are all responsible for our own spiritual walk.
So this is what happened on Sunday, May 9th, 2021. We dedicated the boys and prayed over them. The dedication itself felt intimate even though we are part of a large church. We had their Godparents join us on stage, my sister Veronica and brother-in-law Rodney, an elder also joined us and read scripture. We know giving our children back to God is not easy, the truth is that it’s heartbreaking, but it’s also comforting knowing that God has a purpose and plan for each one of them.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
Jeremiah 1:5
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. “
Psalms 139: 13-14
